What's the most common problem with boilers?

Do I need access to all my radiators when a new boiler is fitted?

Usually, yes - when a new boiler is commissioned, the engineer typically needs to bleed and balance each radiator to make sure the whole system is working correctly, so it helps to make sure they're not blocked by furniture on the day.

What's the difference between a plumber and a heating engineer?

A plumber typically works on water systems - pipework, taps, drainage while a heating engineer specialises in central heating and boilers. Gas boiler work specifically requires Gas Safe registration, regardless of which trade someone otherwise does.

Is a power flush worth it?

If radiators are heating unevenly, or the boiler seems to be working harder than it should, a power flush clears the sludge and debris that builds up over time and is often causing it. An engineer can assess during a visit whether it's actually needed rather than just recommending it by default.

Is a broken boiler an emergency?

No heating or hot water, especially in winter, counts as an emergency and is worth booking promptly. If you smell gas or suspect a leak, leave the property immediately and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.
